THE MURU'S "AMAZING RACE"

In tonights episode of the "Amazing Race" teams must get from the Howard Johnson Hotel in Anaheim USA to the Holiday Inn Hotel - Munich, Germany. On the way there will be a number of "check-points" and road-blocks were teams will need to use there skills , wits and what money they have to reach their final destination. Remember those team members that fight, argue and scrap with their siblings and husbands that don't listen to the needs of their wives may be eliminated at the end of this leg of the race.

In the first road-block challenge they must choose 2 members of their team to pack 8 check-in and 5 carry-on bags while the remaining members of the team do a water challenge in the Hotel pool. Three of the youngest members of the team must play continuously in the pool while the other members pack the team bags. They must then find a Grey Line LAX shuttle Bus which leaves every hour from their Hotel.
Fortunately for this team everything went very smoothly all were on the bus on time and even had time for a late lunch at Denny's before leaving. On route they did form an alliance with another New Zealand family whose father was brought up in Timaru. The father of the Muru's used his relationship with Timaru legend (besides Jack Lovelock) Chris Brown (who Grant works with at Whakatane high School). The Muru's were first to arrive at the the second road-block at 5pm.

At this road-block teams must first choose the correct LAX terminal and check in counter. They must then carry all bags themselves as all trolleys at LAX cost $3 US to hire (LAX that S.U.X). Once they have found the correct check in counter. They will then be asked for their passports and handed a boarding pass. They must then take all their bags to another area of the airport to have them x-rayed and identified before they can be checked in. Teams must then wait for their flight which will board at 8.55pm 3 hours after arriving at the airport

The Muru's used this time effectively to form another alliance with a person from down under. A lecturer at Penn State on her way back to Melbourne to see her family. She was willing to talk to the team and kill sometime. Unfortunately teams will not have much else to do at the LAX Lufthansa terminal. Only a few Duty-free shops and the usual eateries.

At this stage of the race came the next Road Block. At this Road Block teams will need to get through the US boarder control, reputably one of the toughest in the world. In this challenge all team members must remove all metal , bags and shoes from their person and laptops from bags. If any team members fail to comply they my have to be probed by an uptight boarder control officer. In this check point Grant failed the metal detector and had to throw away all coins he forgot to remove from his pockets. lets hope this does not effect his team in the future. They were only souvenirs said Grant. Luckily all members of the team made it on to the flight and were even given preferential treatment as they were a family group. The kids do have a complaint for the producers as they were not given seats with their own personal TV screen like their Air NZ flight. The children managed to sleep for most of the 11 hour flight. Arriving in Munich 5pm Munich time.
On arrival in Munich was the next road-block. At this road-block each team must find the baggage claim area, claim their bags and take a photo in front of King Kong's BMW. They must then find the train terminal and work out how to catch a train to Rosenheimer Station in the Centre of Munich. At this stage all teams will need to adapt to the German language barrier as even if Germans can speak English they don't like to. Here they will need to get quickly to the Holiday Inn. This will be the final check-point for this leg of this course were someone may be eliminated.
The Muru's found the last stage difficult as no members had a working knowledge of the German language. Sharon was given the challenge of finding information on how to get to their destination. Unfortunately she was unable to get the total message and the family ended up spending $17 EU on a one day ticket when they could've brought a 3 day "partner pass" for $20 EU. Grant decided not to make an issue of this as the team was very tense after the 12 hour flight. The Muru's arrived at the last checkpoint first at 6pm.
